What are net carbs and how do you calculate them?Updated 3 months ago
- Net carbs are the carbohydrates that actually impact your blood sugar. To calculate them, you subtract fiber and sugar alcohols (like erythritol) from total carbohydrates.
Example (from our nutrition panels):
35 g total carbs
– 16 g fiber
– 12 g erythritol
= 7 g net carbs
Our muffins range between 6–8 g net carbs, depending on the flavor.
Net carbs give you a better sense of how a product fits into your daily carb intake, especially if you’re following a low-carb or keto-friendly plan.
Note:
The term “net carbs” isn’t officially defined by the FDA, but it’s commonly used by nutrition experts and food manufacturers to estimate carbs that have a measurable impact on blood sugar. Sugar alcohols like erythritol and dietary fiber aren’t fully digested or metabolized, which is why they’re excluded from the total.
